The
city of Iloilo remains as a prominent enclave for Catholicism all
over the Philippines. To date, the Archbishop of Manila, Jaime Cardinal
L. Sin, D.D. hails from the town of Washington in Iloilo.
The years of
preservation as well as the absence of any geologic disturbances
or earthquakes helped preserve some of the Spanish inspired architectures
like the bellfry of Jaro. The bellfry is all what is left of a church
that was burned down. Beside the bellfry now stands the Cathedral
of the Diocese of Jaro.
